Institute of Jesuit Sources to Move to Boston College

July 30, 2014 — For more than half a century, the Institute of Jesuit Sources (IJS) has helped bring Jesuit history and spirituality to life. In addition to publishing English-language editions of the fundamental documents of the Society of Jesus, IJS also supports Jesuit scholarship on a wide range of topics, publishing the work of more than 50 authors.

Now, the venerable publisher is moving from its longtime home in St. Louis to Boston College’s Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies.  According to Fr. Douglas Marcouiller, SJ, provincial of the Missouri Province Jesuits, the move, which is expected to be completed by December 1, 2014, “will bring deeper financial resources and the possibility of synergies with an international center … and proximity to the School of Theology and Ministry with its sixty-some Jesuit graduate students from around the world may foster fruitful collaboration in research and publication.”

In announcing the upcoming move, Fr. Marcouiller was quick to acknowledge IJS’s “extraordinary service to the Society and the Church.” He also thanked the Institute’s current staff, including Fr. John Padberg, SJ, Fr. John McCarthy, SJ, Fr. Claude Pavur, SJ, Fr. Ed Schmidt, SJ, and Joni Hosty, saying, “Our lives have been greatly enriched by your work and that of your predecessors.”

Fr. Thomas H. Smolich, SJ, president of the Jesuit Conference, said, “IJS has done terrific service for the Society of Jesus for many years, and I’m grateful that at its new home at Boston College, the Institute will continue to flourish and expand its reach.”
