Different Ways to Give
There are a number of ways -- large and small -- that you may wish to support the work of the Society of Jesus and its ministries. Charitable donations are truly the foundation of the great work of the church and the provinces continue to be blessed with generous benefactors.
Each province has specific rules and procedures for handling various types of donations. Contact the Development Office of your local province. Links to the province development offices are on the support page map.
While there may be differences among the provinces, the following lists some of the various ways you may be able to contribute.
Cash Gifts
If you itemize on your tax returns, your gift to the Jesuits will allow you to receive a full charitable income tax deduction. You may send your donation according to the province directions.
Matching Gifts
If your employer will match your gifts and you complete whatever forms necessary, you will benefit the Jesuits and those they serve two-fold (simply make sure the forms are filled out with the correct organizational titles/addresses as instructed by your province development office).
Securities
If you have stock that has earned long-term capital gains, your gift to the Jesuits will help you avoid a substantial capital gains tax while still benefiting the Jesuit ministries of your province.
Remember the Jesuits in Your Will
As you provide for your loved ones in your Will, you may also wish to leave an additional amount for your charitable interests. You may name a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or “what’s left” (the remainder or residual). If you benefit the Jesuits in your will, you will need to use the correct legal titles as instructed by your province development office.
Jesuit Charitable Gift Annuity
If you are over the age of 55 and would like to provide for a guaranteed income for life with no investment responsibilities, you may wish to partner with the Jesuits and their ministries with the establishment of a Charitable Gift Annuity. Payments to you are based on your age, the date of your gift and a payment to your beneficiary, if you so desire. Contact your province development office if you would like to discuss this type of gift and/or receive a proposal with more details.
Set up a Charitable Trust
If your consultation with a professional planner (attorney, banker, accountant, tax advisor, financial planner, investment advisor or representative of a charitable interest) suggests that your financial security will be maintained by setting up a trust agreement and you wish to help with the future needs of the Jesuits, you may contact your province development office for assistance in fulfilling your objectives. To contact the development office of a specific province, or see the links to the province development offices view the support page map.
