National Housing Trust Fund Bill Gets Hearing
|
A bipartisan bill to help create up to 1.5 million units of affordable housing over ten years, the National Housing Trust Fund Act of 2007 (H.R. 2895), was introduced in the House of Representatives on Thursday, June 28, 2007 with 17 co-sponsors. House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-MA) will hold a hearing in the Financial Services Committee on July 19, 2007.
The bill seeks to establish a National Affordable Housing Trust Fund in the US Treasury to serve as a source of revenue to provide for the development, rehabilitation, and preservation of decent, safe, and affordable housing for low-income families. If it passes, the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund will create up to 1.5 million units of affordable housing to low-income families and fellows citizens with greater economic needs over the next ten years. The Jesuit Conference joins all supporters of H.R 2895 bill and encourages all friends and collaborators to contact their Representatives and ask them to cosponsor the bill. The National Affordable Housing Trust Fund Act of 2007 is an outstanding expression of our solidarity with the lowest-income brothers and sisters of our country who spend more than 50% of their income on rent. The Jesuit Conference has been an active member of the National Housing Trust Fund campaign since 2002.
