David Gonzalez of New York Times Pays Tribute to Salvadoran Martyrs

Twenty-three years ago today, six Jesuit priests, their cook and her daughter were brutally slaughtered by Salvadoran armed forces, victims of a civil war that raged for a dozen years and claimed 75,000 lives.  In today’s New York Times article, In Priests’ Dining Room, a Reminder of Brutality in El Salvador, David Gonzalez, longtime member of the paper’s metro desk and a board member of America Magazine, writes movingly about how the spirit of the eight martyrs is being kept alive in a Jesuit community in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood.
