McCauley, James P.Died
Jesuit Father James P. McCauley died Oct. 12, 2012, in Regis Infirmary at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos, Calif., after a long illness. He was 87 years old. Born in San Anselmo, Calif., on March 26, 1925, Fr. McCauley entered the Society of Jesus at Sacred Heart Novitiate in Los Gatos on Feb. 10, 1943. He pronounced final vows on Aug. 15, 1960, at Fordham University in Bronx, N.Y.
Fr. McCauley did graduate studies in psychology at Fordham University and taught for several years at the University of San Francisco (USF). He also served as a counselor to USF students at a program in Innsbruck, Austria. Parochial ministry was also a major focus, and he spent many years in parish work in Larchmont, N.Y., and at various parishes around northern California. His last position was at St. Patrick’s Church, Tonopah, Nev., where he was pastor from 1998 to 2005. Failing health brought him to Sacred Heart Jesuit Center, Los Gatos, where he continued his ministry as long as he was able.
