ABC 7 News in the Washington, D.C. metro area recently highlighted Washington Jesuit Academy in its Harris’ Heroes feature, touting the school’s 12-hour day as one of the ways educators there keep students from slipping through the cracks.
At the all-boys middle school in northeast D.C., teachers have an 11-month school year to improve reading levels and prepare students for competitive high school.
“So much of what we see in Washington D.C. is youth not being successful because they just haven’t channeled their spark of excitement for school into a bonfire,” founder and president Bill Whitaker said.
