Michael Boughton, SJ, New England Province


Fr. Michael G. Boughton, SJ, has served for the last three years as Director of the Center for Ignatian Spirituality at Boston College, where he offers and helps coordinate workshops and retreats for faculty, administrators and staff, and offers spiritual direction to members of the university community.

Born in 1948, Fr Boughton is a native of Long Island, New York, and a 1970 graduate of Boston College. He entered the Society in the New England Province that year, and later earned his MA in English at Boston College and his M.Div at the Weston School of Theology. He was ordained a priest in 1979.

From 1980 until 1990 Fr Boughton served as Chaplain at the College of the Holy Cross, and then served as Rector of the Jesuit Community at Fairfield University. He then served for ten years at President of Fairfield Prep. Fr Boughton was one of the elected delegates from the New England Province to the 35th General Congregation of the Society of Jesus.

Fr. Boughton has served on the Board of Trustees for the University of Scranton, and for Boston College High School, Regis High School, and Fordham Prep. He presently serves on the Board of Cheverus High School and Cristo Rey Boston High School.
