Ignatius painting by Holly SchapkerMount Manresa Jesuit Retreat House in Staten Island, New York, will welcome artist Holly Schapker on November 13 at the first of a year-long series of centennial anniversary events.

Ms. Schapker is a Cincinnati artist whose paintings are inspired by the life of Ignatius. Her works are currently on exhibit at the art gallery at Xavier University where she graduated.

“These paintings represent my interpretation of the mission of St. Ignatius,” Schapker said. “They incorporate all I know and all I feel about my life as a Catholic and an alumna of a Jesuit university.”

“Mount Manresa has been here through world wars, economic disasters and a host of challenges that have touched the lives of everyone in this city,” said Fred Herron, interim executive director at Mount Manresa.

“It was a special place of respite and support for relief workers after 9/11.

“We stand on the shoulders of giants and are challenged to meet the needs of the city in our next hundred years. Throughout this centennial anniversary year, we will continue to recall this rich heritage at the same time that we look into the future with hope and optimism.” [silive.com]
