Xavier University Graduate Slated to be Speaker of the House

Congressman John Boehner, who graduated from Xavier University in 1977 with a business degree, was re-elected to his position as U.S. Representative for the 8th district of Ohio on Tuesday, November 2, and is likely to become the new Speaker of the House.

In a 2003 Xavier magazine article about Boehner, who lives in a suburb north of Cincinnati, his county’s Republican Party Chairman Joe W. Schwartz Sr. predicted his future as Speaker of the House.

Boehner, who won his first run for Congress in 1989, was awarded an honorary degree during Xavier’s 2006 commencement ceremony. [Xavier University]
