The New York Times highlighted an exhibit commemorating Jesuit Father Matteo Ricci’s death in its Arts section. The exhibit, titled “The Master From the West: An Exhibition Commemorating the 400th Anniversary of the Passing of Matteo Ricci,” opened at the Macao Museum of Art in August and runs through October 31. It has previously been held in Macerata, Italy and Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing, China.
According to curator Filippo Mignini, the exhibition is intended to reconstruct the first encounter between the Chinese and European civilizations, at the end of the Ming dynasty.
