Fr. Joseph Raymond DeJardin, SJ, died April 9, 2010 in Spokane, Washington. He was 83 years old.
Joseph DeJardin was born on January 24, 1927 in Salem, Oregon. After being honorably discharged by the Navy in 1946 he entered the Oregon Province of the Jesuits on September 7, 1948. He was ordained a priest on June 17, 1961 at St. Aloysius Church in Spokane, Washington and took final vows as a Jesuit in 1967.
Fr. DeJardin was a history teacher as well as a librarian, spending over 40 years working at Jesuit High School in Portland, Oregon, as well as spending two years at Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma. Later he moved from teaching to pastoral ministry at Jesuit High where he worked as a campus minister for 14 years, retiring from Jesuit High in 2004. He then moved to the Regis Jesuit community where he lived for six years. He died on April 9, 2010 at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington after a brief illness.
Fr. DeJardin was preceded in death by his twin sister Joan Holland and is survived by his nephews and nieces and numerous cousins.
